DySE::NS Script : Documentation |

The DySE::NS script (make.pl) is a Perl script program that works in conjunction with the generic DySE™ viewer script (view.pl) to display products offered by the shops of the NetShops.com Affiliate Network (see NetShops.com Shops below for a list of the shops). The DySE::NS script and the DySE™ viewer script run on your web server.
When you run the DySE::NS script (make.pl), it downloads and processes a product datafeed file from NetShops.com and creates a products database file. When a user visits your website, the DySE™ viewer script (view.pl) is run and it displays product pages, category pages, or the home page.
Read the next section NetShops.com Shops to determine which shop (or shops) you want to display. Make a note of the Shop ID for the shop you want to display.
Use Windows Notepad Editor (or any other text editor) and create a text file named
make-ini.txt and type the following line into it:
shop "SHOPID"
In place of SHOPID, type the Shop ID of the shop that you want to display.
Remember where you save this file (e.g.: in "My Documents") so that you can find it later.
Follow the standard instructions for installing DySE™ view.pl and for installing a DySE™ merchant module. In the instructions, you will see a step about uploading an optional
make-ini.txt configuration file. That step refers to themake-ini.txt file that you just created above.
Note: Run make.pl on a Windows PC
If you need to run make.pl on your Windows PC rather than on your server then you must enable support for MySQL remote database access so that the NetShops.com MySQL server can be contacted.After you install ActivePerl on your Windows PC, see:

Error: Cannot connect to MySQL server.
When you run make.pl, it tries to connect to the MySQL server on the NetShops.com website and download the datafeed. If you see an error message "cannot connect to MySQL server" then your server probably has a firewall that is blocking outbound access to the MySQL port (TCP port 3306). Contact your server administrator and ask them to configure the server's firewall to allow outbound access to TCP port 3306. Note: This is outbound access -- outbound and inbound are different!Note to cPanel/WHM users: If your server uses cPanel with WHM, its firewall defaults to blocking outbound access to TCP port 3306. The server administrator must add 3306 to the list of allowed outbound TCP ports. Login as root to the server's cPanel/WHM and scroll down on the left to "ConfigServer Security&Firewall" (tip: type "firewall" into the Find box) and click that link. Under the section
"csf - ConfigServer Firewall" , click "Firewall Configuration" button. Look for "TCP_OUT" box (it is the 7th box down or near there). Look to see if it has 3306 in the list. If not, then add ",3306" to the list (each value is separated by a comma, and it is good practice to keep the list sorted in numerical order). Scroll down and click "Change" to save. Restart the fireall to activate the change.Once the firewall is reconfigured, run make.pl again and it should be able to connect now. Note: If you see a warning that make.pl is already running or that the database is locked, delete the make.lck and data/data.lck files and run make.pl again.
FAQ: How do I display more than one shop on my website ?
Install DySE:NS more than once. Each shop needs its own installation with its own configuration file. For example, if you want to display four shops, then you might install to:
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns2
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns3
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns4
Or you might want to name each directory based on the Shop ID such as
ns-SHOPID . For example, on our own BigGeneralStore.com website, we have:
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns-adirondackchairs for shop adirondackchairs
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns-allbriefcases for shop allbriefcases
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns-aquariumsdirect for shop aquariumsdirect
- /cgi-bin/dyse/ns-armoiregallery for shop armoiregallery
Each installation would have its own configuration file with a distinct value for the shop configuration variable specifying the Shop ID.
In the .htaccess file you need to have a pair of RewriteCond/RewriteRule statements for each installation. In the RewriteRule, set the merch= parameter to the installation directory (e.g.: ns, ns2, ns3, ns4, ...,
ns-adirondackchairs ,ns-allbriefcases , ...)

sub-directory at www.domain.com/furniture/chairs/ you would use furniture/chairs for the VIRTUALDIR in the RewriteRule statement.
The NetShops.com Affiliate Network consists of shops (i.e.: merchants) that you can promote products from. The following table shows the shops organized by category, with links to the actual shops as well as links to sample websites created by the DySE::NS script.
When you install DySE::NS, you need to tell DySE::NS what shop you want it to display. You do that by entering the Shop ID into a
make-ini.txt configuration file (see: Installation).First, look over the table below and decide which shop (or shops) you want to display; make a note of the Shop ID for the shop you want to display since you will need to know it. Note: You can display more than one shop on your website if you want to.
